   Introduction: Name the story and its author and briefly say what the story is about–about two sentences. Then end the introduction with your thesis, in which you name a theme (just one) in the story, the intended audience, and briefly, your reaction to the story. Just name them. Do not expand here. You expand in the body of the paper.Do not put Introduction as a heading. APA does not allow it—See the APA Sample Paper, in the Center for Writing Excellence. Use two sentences for the introduction, three at the most. Learn to make your writing concise, meaning not unnecessarily wordy.
   Body of the Paper: Do not put Body for your heading. Use the three headings below, and yes, use level 1 headings only. A Level 2 heading, typically with long papers, is a level deeper expansion of the point of a level 1 heading, and this paper does not need a level 2 heading. See the headings of the APA Sample Paper. ————————————-ThemeUse Theme as the heading. Then in a paragraph, explain the theme/issue (just one) that you name in the thesis and say what you think the author is saying about that theme or issue—this is you making an inference. An inference is an idea not stated out right, but which you can logically figure from what you read. Making inferences or figuring what an author is saying is what we do in literature. We can also call it interpreting.Be specific.
