Writing Assignment 2– SOCIOLOGY 1306– GUIDELINES

This writing assignment is to read, summarize, analyze, and comment on two articles from the
“Writing Assignment 2: Articles” module. It might be helpful to select two related articles, allowing comparison/contrast or some other sort of connection.

The paper should be at least four pages long, include at least two references beyond the articles, book, or film. (By “at least”, I mean you have completed four pages and are at least into a fifth page of text)
The articles/books/film you chose and the two (or more) additional references you used must be listed in a bibliography.
If you quote directly from the source, be sure to cite the source properly in the body of the paper. Use MLA, APA, or the “Chicago Style” format of the ASA (see the “Citation of Sources” document for details).
The bibliography does NOT count as part of the five page minimum.
Use a standard font like Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman, no larger than12 point Double-space and spell-check the paper.

The constant headlines of police brutality in America has been one of the most talked about issues in the past year alone. There have been numerous killings of unarmed people of color with little to no recourse. The lack of justice for these inhumane murders have caused riots and protests in big cities and small towns. Police brutality has always been around. The main reason that people are starting to see it first hand, and sometimes as it is happening, is due to a massive use of technology and cellphones. The justice system doesn’t give the same fair judgement or justice to people of color for their wrongdoings or for wrongdoing done to them vs their non colored counterparts. The lack of overview in the police department has led to coverups, mistrials and sometimes no penalties at all for murder. People of all races deserve to not be brutally murdered by police.
