From the charts listed in (kirk, 2016), I have selected bar chart for this discussion. Bar charts are the ones that are used to depict the information related to different discrete categories of data. They are also used to compare different categories of data. Bar charts can be drawn horizontally or vertically based on the data being represented. The longer the bar of the chart the greater the value that is being represented for that category. These are one of the most common types of graphs used as they are simple and easy to be interpreted. They are also flexible by providing several variations of the standard bar chart. They are horizontal bar charts, grouped or component bar charts and tacked bar charts. The charts are constructed in such a way that the length of the bar in each category is proportional to the quantity of that category. Usually in a horizontal bar chart, x-axis represents the categories available and y-axis represent the discrete values of that categories. The reason why I selected bar chart is because of its advantages, they are as follows; Bar chart make it easy to compare the categories of data at a glance (Bar Graph, n.d.).They can depict the change in data over time. Bar charts are similar to line charts, the difference is line charts will be able to represent small changes over time, whereas bar charts will be able to display larger changes or differences among the categories of data. They allow the user to be able to identify the patterns and trends far easier than the numerical data. Selecting a chart to visualize the data should depend on the data one deals with. They should not stick to any one chart before looking into the data. If the variable is of type category bar chart visualization will be used (Patel, 2018). If the variable category is continuous histograms and box plots can be used and they can reveal how the values for this variable are spread and about their central tendencies.
