Follow these guidelines:

• Writing (mechanics, spelling, structure, organization, etc.)
• Content—specificity; thorough discussion of evidence and clarity of argument.
• This should be written in essay format, using APA style, and include in-text citations and a reference list.
• You must use two sources in addition to the text. At least one of your outside sources must be an article from the Oakton Library database. If you need help finding an article, go to Course Documents and view my video on using the Library to find articles, and/or use the Ask a Librarian tab in the Library on Oakton’s website to get help.
• You may not use Wikipedia, a blog or any other .com source except for The Gottman Institute.
• You must evaluate your sources to be sure they are reliable if you are using a source that is a website. If you need help with this, ask a librarian or me. Make sure you aren’t accessing a source, for example, that was written by a student in a university class, or a person who is not an authority in the field, or a website/publication that has a religious or political affiliation, or a site like simply psychology etc. I’M ASKING YOU TO DO RESEARCH, NOT A GOOGLE SEARCH.
• Don’t add to the story. For example, don’t write something like: If Dave and Sarah go to counseling they will work this out blah blah blah and then discuss how premarital counseling can make a difference using evidence from psychology. INSTEAD state that premarital counseling has been found to blah blah blah and don’t try to make recommendations or make it seem like you are trying to help them make this work.
• Don’t talk about your own personal experience. For example, don’t say: I had this exact same experience and blah blah blah. This post is replacing a paper that had more to it than this, and the purpose is to do some research and use psychology to formulate a position.
• THIS IS NOT AN OPINION POST. IT IS A POSITION POST THAT NEEDS TO BE SUPPORTED WITH EVIDENCE FROM AUTHORITATIVE SOURCES IN PSYCHOLOGY.
