After reading pages 225-232 in Chapter Four in the California Preschool Learning Frameworks, Vol. 2 (Links to an external site.) respond to the following:

  1. What are the health benefits of a model early childhood program?
  2. How can a holistic approach that interrelates Health, Safety, and Nutrition promote well-being and good health?

Part Two:

Health Goal: Early childhood professionals take an active role in advocating for the physical health and safety of every child. To that end, your role as a professional will require modeling and be promoting sound health and nutritional practices, and more. “Early Childhood educators have the challenge of modeling a healthy lifestyle for children they teach – one that will benefit both themselves and the children.” (CA Dept. of Ed. 2011, p. 276)

This course can be an opportunity to educate and empower ourselves to the challenge of modeling a healthy lifestyle by starting with examining our own lifestyle in regards to health habits and nutrition and coming up with one Health Goal for ourselves.

For part two of this part of the Discussion write a Personal Health Goal that you will commit to working on this semester. Keep track of how you are doing with your goal each week and later in the semester, we will check in on the progress and challenges of your goal.

  1. After reviewing Chapter One in our text, Health, Safety, and Nutrition: What is the Health Goal that you choose to work on this semester?
