Guidelines for Research Paper(1500-plus word length- paper (typed, size 12 font either Arial or Times New Roman,1’’ margins with a title page)

You must narrow down the broad topic. I want to see what you have learned within a given area of environmental health. For example, you already know what bioaccumulation of heavy metals such as mercury is, now you want to narrow you focus. Possible exploration areas within the area of bioaccumulation include: 1) the type of heavy metals in which it is common but not studied well (only few papers on them), 2) bioaccumulation effects on human body from heavy metals that newly reported in the literature (look for the most recent papers), 3) any newly identified sources of exposure to humans, and 4) new technologies or control measures tested to prevent their exposure. You can write a paper on any of these four exploration areas.

You will know about these exploration areas when you search articles using different keywords or from references of the articles you found from using article search key words. You can use different key words taking the clue from different type of papers that are displayed during the article search For example a basic key word such as this should provide a plethora of articles in different exploratory areas:

bioaccumulation of mercuryFocus on one of the exploratory areas and keep exploring within that area and then sub areas finally narrowing down to considerable depth of the topic. (for example, your journey should look like this: bioaccumulation of mercurybioaccumulation of mercury and pregnancy bioaccumulation of mercury and developmental anomalies among newborns Scope for health education to prevent developmental anomalies among newborns from mercury infiltrated fish. This final topic is the topic you want to explore. Find seven articles in this topic and take it from there.

The format of the paper should be as following:

Title Page:Describe your work briefly in two to three lines and also include your name, date and course number. (This page is not part of your 1500 words content)

Introduction (10 points):The part should be comprehensible to the general audience. You should define/describe the topic that you will address. By defining and establishing the objective of your paper in the introductory section, you clarify the goal and set the direction for the rest of the paper. Points will be cut for not clearly defining the main idea, not providing references to back up the significance of the topic presented, grammatical or language errors, and not following referencing style

Literature review (25 Points):At least try to find seven (7) peer-reviewed research articles from literature search that explored your topic with sufficient scientific rigor. I am not looking for review papers or media reports or case studies. They should be hardcore research papers with statistics and tables that they produced from primary (their own) data collection. In your description, you should provide an enlarged but focused information on significant literature organized clearly around the topic you posed in the introduction. The information should be provided in enough detail to orient the reader who may not be a specialist in the subject. Make the description clear, crisp, and logically organized. Make seven paragraphs for seven individual studies. The main points in each of the seven paragraph should be what author’s research objective was, what methods they used to meet that objective, what were their main findings along with stats and their general conclusion. Points will be cut for not covering seven required studies, missing any of the essential information as described above in bold text in this section, grammatical or language errors, and not following referencing style.

Discussion (10 Points):This section should provide the analysis of the work you described in literature review. You should provide your general take on the quality of your selected papers. Provide information on the type of study designs used (cohort is strongest design, case control and cross sectional are weakest), the size of sample collected (larger the number of participants the stronger the study), the rigors of method that were used (laboratory methods, clinical methods, hospital data, health data etc. are strong methods, use of questionnaire/survey is weak method), and mention what mercury and pregnancy bioaccumulation of mercury and developmental anomalies among newborns Scope for health education to prevent developmental anomalies among newborns from mercury infiltrated fish. This final topic is the topic you want to explore. Find seven articles in this topic and take it from there. The format of the paper should be as following: Title Page:Describe your work briefly in two to three lines and also include your name, date and course number. (This page is not part of your 1500 words content)

Conclusions (5 points):The conclusions section is placed at the end of the document, right before theBibliography. In this section, restate the objective of this review (first sentence) and then go with what you found from the literature review (second sentence). Finally, discuss some solutions or alternatives (third sentence). To find solutions or alternatives, look into the literature to search alternatives or solutions. If you cannot find it, state your own. Points will be cut for missing any of the essential information as described above in bold text in this section, and for grammatical or language errors.

References/Bibliography:The conclusions are followed by a list of references (or bibliography) items. Must be in APA style. MUST HAVE at least 7 PEER REVIEWED JOURNAL ARTICLES Plus additional five (5) references to complete your introduction section. The total references in the research papers should be at least 12 (The references page is not part of 1500-words content).
