Learning how to identify and appraise reputable information is key in evidence-based practice, as basing one’s practice on evidence that is not reputable leads to flawed, and often dangerous practices. This has been seen recently with misinformation about vaccinations making its way to widespread platform, propagated mostly by individuals without medical or research backgrounds.

It is important to utilize scholarly databases and other forms of reputable information when gathering evidence to support, change, or refute how practice (your intervention) is done. In order to ensure that you adequately address the PICO question, you will spend the next two weeks locating and appraising evidence, including specific types of peer-reviewed journal articles, reputable websites, and expert feedback.

You will appraise the evidence to determine whether or not the findings are reputable, and document each source in an Evidence Appraisal Table (see template in Assignment Directions). In order to learn how to properly appraise and organize your findings, please read the following:

Assignment Directions:

1. Review the content in the Assignment Description above.

2. Conduct a thorough search of the evidence in which you identify 10 reputable sources of evidence.

Be sure to include the following:

- - - At least 5 peer-reviewed journal articles (<10 years old), including:
      - At least 1 quantitative primary research studies
      - At least 1 qualitative primary research study
      - At least 1 interdisciplinary article (not nursing)
    - At least 1 current data set (<5 years old) for local findings. Recommended options to get you started, but NOT a comprehensive list of options:
    - At least 1 reputable website (.edu, .gov, .org)
    - At least 1 communication with an expert related to an aspect of your PICO question

Each finding may not exactly address your PICO question as a whole, but different pieces of evidence can address different components within the PICO question.
