• What is a horizontal merger?
• Why is it beneficial?
• Why would a health care organization merge with another?
• How do stakeholders benefit?

Part 8 (3-5 pgs)

A CEO of a local health care organization in your area is determining whether merging with the other health care organization in your city is the right move. The CEO knows that understanding the competitor, identifying their weaknesses, and assessing the impact of both organization’s strategic moves can set a competitive advantage. Address the following in a 3-5-page paper, not including title page and reference page:

• Discuss the importance of competitive advantage and why understanding the competition is important.
• Explain the concept of a competitor analysis.
• Construct a brief competitor analysis that will provide information on competitors in your area, their strengths and weaknesses, and their possible strategic moves.
• Identify and discuss obstacles that might hinder your ability to conduct an effective service area competitor analysis.

For this assignment, use your city or area as the backdrop for the assignment.

Part 9

Review and reflect on the knowledge you have gained from this course. Based on your review and reflection, write at least 150-200 words on the following:

• What were the most compelling topics learned in this course?
• How did participating in discussions help your understanding of the subject matter? Is anything still unclear that could be clarified?
• What approaches could have yielded additional valuable information?

Now that you understand the concept of a competitor analysis, you must now be able to communicate your organization’s strategy to all employees.

The CEO for your organization has announced that the organization must put more of a focus on consumer-driven health care, and an urgent care clinic division will be added as an answer to the recent uptick in retail health clinics in your area.

For this assignment, develop a 4-6-page action plan, not including title page and reference page, that will facilitate communication of the strategy. Your action plan should include, but is not limited to, the following:

• Goals or objectives that detail how the new urgent care clinic division will contribute to the set strategy (e.g., tie this in with the organizational statements you constructed)
• What will be required to meet the goals and objectives
• Who is responsible for each goal and objective
• What resources will be required to achieve goals and objectives
• How results will be measured and evaluated

At least 1 page of your report should be dedicated to explaining the process for communicating the plan across the organization.
