Family deeply affects child development. As a result, this assignment will focus on ways in which family, culture, and community can influence a child’s learning and development. In addition, you will practice advocating for your students by requesting parental involvement in the classroom and demonstrating the importance of positive, purposeful relationships on child development.
Write a 500-750 word Fall Welcome Night script to parents and guardians that attempts to persuade them to become involved in their child’s learning. Focus on a specific grade level Pre-K-3.
Since this script will be an oral presentation to parents and guardians on welcome night, keep the tone and language appropriate and professional for parents and guardians.
- Use your researched knowledge of family and environment, specifically culture and community, to establish a connection with parents and demonstrate your advocacy for their child. Identify and/or reference the culture represented in the school community.
- Describe how familial relationships and environment affect children’s development.
- Discuss the influence adverse childhood experiences can have on students’ lives and school performance. Provide specific examples of adverse childhood experiences or traumatic experiences that children might face.
- Recommend two activities and practices families can do outside of school to maximize learning and promote a positive and encouraging environment for their child through healthy academic/learning, social, and physical development.
