Now that you have completed your Nutrition Calc Plus, an evaluation of your eating habits from
the beginning of the semester, it is time to summarize with conclusions and changes. These are
changes that you may consider making to your eating habits to live a healthier lifestyle. You
will be writing a 3 to 4-page narrative to discuss your conclusions. Please submit your work as a
word document. 50 points
You will use your MyPlate Report as the foundation and focal point of the narrative. You will
evaluate your MyPlate report and determine a total of 5 strengths and areas for improvement.
You can have any combination of strengths and areas for improvement as long as you can
identify five. You should have a mixture of strengths and areas for improvement. Please use an
intake of 75% or above as a strength for the food group. Remember anything below 100% is
considered as not meeting your goal. Also, when percentages for some food groups exceed
150% this may not be a strength.
Discuss your strengths and areas for improvement by supporting your selection with nutritional
data (amount and/or percentage) from a second report in your Nutrition Calc Report file, such
as the Bar Graph Report or Macronutrient Distribution Report. This will help you to reinforce
concepts and see connections between nutrients to your MyPlate (science and reality).
You can use each section of the MyPlate as a strength and/or an area for improvement. You are
also able to use a food group to identify more than one strength or more than one area for
improvement as well as a strength and an area for improvement.
For example, as a strength, you may find that your grain intake is adequate based on your
MyPlate reinforcing this strength with your enrichment nutrients thiamin, riboflavin and niacin
(from the Bar Graph Report). You may also find your grain intake adequate, but identified an
area for improvement as your fiber gram intake (from the Bar Graph Report) is low indicating
that you are consuming adequate grains, but they are refined. Strengths and areas for
improvement should be supported with nutrients (not foods). Strengths should be supported
with strengths.
Another way of saying this is, for each strength and area for improvement that you identify
from your MyPlate report you will find nutritional data from another report on the
NutritionCalc Report file that guided you to your conclusion. For each strength and area of
improvement you identify you are to use 2 report sources:
First, the MyPlate
Second, you use another NutritionCalc report to support your findings.

Strengths should be supported with strengths and areas for improvement with areas for
improvement.
When you have identified your areas of improvement include realistic measurable goals to help
you make desired changes to these areas in your eating pattern. Please be more specific than I
need to eat more vegetables, as this is not a measurable goal. Also, if you will be adding more
foods to your diet, consider what foods you need to take away from your diet. By this point in
your college career, you should be able to write a goal. A goal should be specific, measurable,
attainable, realistic, and timely.
If your eating pattern is full of strengths, please include goals that will help you with your
strengths.
Your narrative should follow this structure and format:
Have a title, as well as an introduction and conclusion.
First, identify and discuss your strengths about your eating pattern that you found on
your MyPlate Report and your second supporting report file. All strengths need to be
supported by strengths.
Second, identify areas of improvement from your MyPlate report and your second
supporting report. Indicate/discuss why you selected these changes.
Third, discuss measurable goals that will be realistic and easy for you to determine if
you will be successful with your change. (Please no apps on your phone or the need to
record your intake). Goals should be attainable, reasonable, realistic, and measurable.
As you discuss your strengths and areas of change, please don’t repeat what you have
already stated in one of the other sections of the question sets, but it is fine to expand
on an answer already provided.
Your narrative should focus on HOW and WHAT you are going to do to make the
changes and not the role of nutrients or the why in your eating pattern.
Please only include changes identified in your reports. [Example although quitting
smoking or exercising is beneficial for your health these were not aspects covered in this
