In your Capstone Presentations, you’ve reflected upon your educational
journeys to consider your most important lessons learned, your most
important mentors and learning experiences, and your plans for the future.
In this final reflective paper, please write an approximately four-page paper
where you provide answers to the following three questions:
1. What is the most important theory or theories that you’ve learned
during your formal education?
A theory attempts to explain something. And while it can be based on
various hypotheses, data collecting, information-gathering, or simply a
certain logic or intuition, etc., at its core, a theory attempts to explain why
things are the way they are. Theories can be found in any academic
discipline, including theories of the mind, human behavior, and social
relations, to theories of economics, criminal offenders, politics, and society,
etc. Marxism, for example, as a theory, obtains that the capitalist economic
system is based on exploiting the working class, while in contrast
Neoliberalism maintains that the capitalist “market” is based on freedom of
individuals to succeed or fail on their own.
Please offer a theory in the field or fields you’ve studied and
elaborate on how learning this theory affected you and your views
of some part of our world and yourself.
2. What knowledge have you gained about yourself through past failures,
mistakes, and/or diverging from an expected path? This might entail classes
you’ve found challenging, bouts of uncertainty about your path in life and
education, or something else. This question asks you to consider the learning
that comes not from success but from failures, setbacks, and challenges, and
what you did to either overcome them and/or learn from them and go on.
3. What do you think are two of our most pressing issues or problems
existing in the world today: on the local (community or state), national, and
global levels? How might any experiences you’ve had in your own learning
and education be used to put us on a path towards solving these
issues/problems?
