avoid using bullet points W r i t i n g
Background:
This is the second of three Reflective Letters (Week 4, Week 8, and Week 17) that you will write throughout the semester. Even though this is only four weeks since the last Letter, we have now reached the halfway point of the semester, so you should have a better “feel” for the class. Though, like the first Letter, this gives you a chance to let me know how you are doing in the class, ask questions about anything, and provide additional thoughts on your writing and reading progress.
On my end, I will use these reflections to gauge what we are doing now and to help you succeed moving forward. They are worth 25 pts. and should be between 500-1,000 words. Please be as specific as possible and try to use examples from your writings, readings and other assignments. I would recommend that you take some time and look back at the past four weeks and what you have written in the Discussions, Padlets, and other assignments. As for the structure, you should try to organize it in a letter style (though it doesn’t have to be too formal). It should include multiple paragraphs and try to avoid using bullet points as well. Here is a sample. (though this is more of a letter that you would write at the very end of the class, but it will still give you an idea of how to write a reflective piece). If you haven’t looked at my feedback for the first Reflective Letter, I would suggest doing so before writing this one.
Here are some questions that you can use to help you write your Letter (they are different than the first Letter):
- Now that we have reached the middle of the semester, how would you assess your performance so far?
- Now that you have submitted your first essay and received a grade, how did you feel about it, the process, and what could you have done differently?
- How are you liking the Conspiracy Theory Essay/Unit and the other assignments, activities and readings since the first Letter?
- In your first letter, you talked about ways that you can improve, so have you been able to incorporate those strategies, and if not, what will you do to guarantee your success in the second half of the semester?
- What would like to see more from me or your classmates?
- What are you looking forward to or concerned about? What questions or confusion do you have at this stage?
- Any other thoughts?
