In this society there are several white collar crimes that are committed. White collar crimes are non-violent, and you do get jail time, but it all depends on the judge because the judge could make you serve time or do community service.
Property Crimes
Property crimes are most often because it’s a lot of people breaking into other people’s property as far as someone’s house, car, and stores. Furthermore, a comparison of 36 developed countries indicates that where that’s where violent crime as measured by homicide rates are high property crimes tended to be low (Civitas 2012). Property and violent crimes represent just two types of crimes that take place worldwide.
Transnational Crime
Transnational crimes are crimes that have actual or potential effect across national borders and crimes that are intrastate but offend fundamental values of the international community. Terrorists and transnational crime groups will proliferate because these crime groups are major beneficiaries of globalization. Transnational crimes are crimes like drug trafficking, stolen property, and counterfeiting. Transnational crimes primarily functions to provide illicit goods and services, and to infiltrate business or government entities (Albanese, 2012).
In today’s society human trafficking is one of the most known transnational crime because it happens all over the world, it’s happening day and night, men and woman is never going to see thor families again, and thry never going to live an normal life because the human trafficking are going to have them traumatized and scarred for life.
Crime
Crime is a violation of a federal, state, or local criminal law. In order for something to be labeled as a crime or a person to be labeled as a criminal is if they actually did something that they weren’t supposed to be doing. The three major types of statistics used to measure crime are official statistics, victimization surveys, and self-report offender surveys. The local sheriffs departments and police departments throughout the United States collect information on numerous reported crimes, arrests, and voluntarily report them to the FBI. Crime rates are the number of crimes committed per 100,000 population, the actual number of crimes, the percentage of change over time, and clearance rates.
Clearance Rates
Clearance rates measure the percentage of cases in which an arrest and official change have been made and the case has been turned over to the courts.
The Dark Figure Of Crimes
The dark figure of crimes is the tendency for so many crimes to go unreported and undetected by the UCR. Interviewers collect a variety of information, including the victim’s background (age, race and ethnicity, sex, marital status, education, and area of residence). There are 6.1 million violent crimes and 16.7 million property crimes, six and two times more, respectively, than estimates using official statistics (FBI 2014a; Truman and Langton 2014). Very serious firearm violence or the rate of serious violent crime that are:
- Domestic Violence
- Stranger Violence
- Violent and crime with the use of a weapon
- Violent crime resulting in injury
“To improve its methodology, assure its sustainability, increase its value to national and local stakeholders, and better meet the challenges of measuring the extent, characteristics, and consequences of criminal victimization” (BJS 2013B, P. 1).
